A Word From Our Pastor: Welcoming New Members

WelcomeSisters and Brothers in Christ,

There are many blessings involved in my work as a pastor, and one of them is inviting people into the life of the congregation and sharing our lives together. As such, I want to briefly introduce you to the people who joined the congregation on Easter.

These are the people who joined the church on Easter:
Jan and Bob Hendrickson moved to Metolius nearly a year ago from Deming, New Mexico. They have transferred their membership from the First United Methodist Church of Deming, NM. Since they began attending here, they have become regular volunteers at the Brown Bag food program.
Tami Rohde has been a longtime resident of Madras. Her first connection with us was in volunteering her time at the church a little over a year ago, which she continues to this day. This past year has been a tumultuous and difficult one for her and her family, to which you, the congregation, have responded with love and acceptance. These signs of God’s love and welcome have encouraged Tami to be a vital part of our community by joining in membership.
Craig Graham and Lisa Shepard are a couple engaged to be married. In moving to town, they found loving arms and hearts to embrace them and worship that spoke to their lives. They are currently exploring ways that they will be active in our mission and vision.
Also, we baptized Addison Skaar, the two month old daughter of Erika and Kasey. We welcome her into our midst, and commit to supporting Addison in her growth as a child of God. We anticipate the joys of sharing our lives together as she grows.
When people join in membership here, we commit to live in the power and love that God provides, and to live in intentional ways with one another. We commit to faithful participate in the ministries of the church through our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. Over the next several months, I will be sharing with you more about what these commitments mean in my life and the lives of others in the congregation.
Until that time, I invite you to get to know these newest members of our community better so that we may continue to work towards our vision for Madras United Methodist Church of “Growing in love through relationship with God, each other, and our neighbors.”

Peace and Joy to you in Christ!

Pastor Dan Benson
